The writing is beautiful, never using one word where three will do better, but also not making the prose needlessly wordy. Like the magic that runs through the novel, the story dances and skips rather than walking, when you think you have a handle on it, it makes a pasodoble to the next part without missing a beat. It has magic and monsters, both those inscrutable to the mind and those with more common forms, and it has family, family in all its tragedy, its happiness, it's glory...
